Following the conclusion of World War II, the ownership of the airport was transferred from the Federal Government to the City of Millville, which initiated its development into a hub for business aviation and associated industries. In 1999, the City of Millville entered into a lease agreement with the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) to be the airport sponsor – managing and developing the airport for an initial 30-year term. As with each airport facility under the DRBA umbrella, the focus of the agency is further economic development opportunities and enhance the transportation infrastructure that will lay the foundation for businesses to succeed at these regional facilities.
The DRBA brings a wealth of resources, economies of scale, and airport management expertise to the table as it it serves as the sponsor for four other airports within its Airports Division: Wilmington Airport (ILG), Delaware Airpark (33N), the Civil Air Terminal at Dover Air Force Base (CAT), and Cape May Airport (WWD). The DRBA is known as an innovative leader in transportation infrastructure and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. As the sponsor of five aviation facilities, the bi-state agency does not charge a management fee to the owners of these facilities to be the sponsor and develop them.
At Millville (MIV), the DRBA has initiated significant modernization efforts at the airport, rebranding it as Millville Executive. This includes substantial investments in new hangars and infrastructure, coupled with the successful acquisition of over $32 million in federal funds dedicated to airfield improvements.
Today, Millville Executive Airport is not only a premier destination for business aviation but also a dynamic economic engine for the region. Its modernized facilities and strategic investments have attracted a growing number of businesses, furthering its mission of economic revitalization. By integrating world-class infrastructure with strategic support for industries, the airport continues to play a pivotal role in southern New Jersey’s transportation and business ecosystem.
